In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, visiting Kakariko Village often leads travelers to the local lodging for a quick rest, only to find the establishment temporarily unattended. The side quest titled Out of the Inn requires players to track down the missing innkeeper who fell asleep while tending to nearby survey campsites. Completing this objective restores full service to the inn and rewards players with useful survival items.
Starting the Quest in Kakariko Village
To begin the mission, head inside the Kakariko Village inn and speak with Dai, a traveler who is temporarily standing behind the counter. Dai explains that the actual innkeeper left to replace bedsheets at the various survey team tents around the area but has not returned. This conversation officially adds the quest to your log and prompts you to search the surrounding cliffs.
Locating the Sleeping Innkeeper
The innkeeper, named Ollie, can be found sleeping on a stone slab directly beneath the Ring Ruins overlooking the village. To reach his location, exit the lodging and ascend the wooden platforms or scale the cliffside near the waterfall. A nearby survey team member explains that Ollie fell into a deep slumber and can only be woken by the scent of a fresh ingredient.
Gathering the Required Truffle
Waking Ollie requires placing a Hearty Truffle right next to his sleeping body. If you do not already possess one in your inventory, you can head to the top of the local waterfall and crouch to enter the Kakariko Village Cave. Exploring this small cavern reveals a guaranteed Hearty Truffle spawn that you can harvest immediately.
Waking Ollie and Claiming Your Reward
Return to the campsite near the ruins and place the Hearty Truffle on or near Ollie's bed slab. Upon smelling the truffle, Ollie will wake up immediately and head back to his post at the lodging. Finally, speak with Dai inside the inn to receive a Sticky Elixir as a reward and fully unlock the village rest services.
